Faster CPU on TLA721

Postby jgorsk on Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:27 pm

Hello,

Has anybody tried to install faster than the standard 733MHz CPU on the TLA721 controller?
I wonder if 1.1GHz of 1.3GHz CPU would work.

Regards,
jgorsk.

If you are considering to run a faster PC to control the 6 slots TLA mainframe, you could also consider the upgrade path to upgrade your TLA721 to TLA7016. The TLA7016 no longer has the built in PC controller. Instead, it has the network module and you need the remote PC to control it. However, the current TLA application software v5.7.046 requires Windows XP Professional OS. So, the remote PC does require to run Windows XP Professional OS.

Hi,

Can the TLA721 be upgraded to the TLA7016 by just replacing the controller module with the network module or does the complete frame need to be replaced?

Can not tell you for sure for the TLA721, but i have a TLA7016 Controller running in a TLA711 main frame without problems.

Hi sschnelle,

What did you have to buy to upgrade your TLA711 frame to TLA7016. Wa it just the TLAPC1 controller and a network adapter for the frame? What's he name of that network adapter?

BTW, is there a way to stop the TLA Application from reading back data from the modules every time you zoom in or zoom out?
I mean any other way than going into Offline mode.

The upgrade path to upgrade to the TLA7016 (TLA7KUP opt.19) is for either the TLA720 or TLA721. The TLA711 is not officially supported for the upgrade path.

I bought a TLA7016 Benchtop Controller for the Mainframe (the card which is plugged in Slot 0 at http://www2.tek.com/cmsrep/psrep/img/13 ... 3726-L.jpg ) at ebay, that was all. But WCN is right, this configuration is unsupported by Tektronix. Probably because the TLA711 and TLA720 have different boards in it.

I'm using this with serveral Windows Computer running the TLA Software, so there's no TLA7PC1 required.

Hi sschnelle,

I've never seen the TLA7016 in action. I wonder if it's any faster than the TLA721 working in a server mode with a fast external PC connected to it over 100Mb Ethernet.
Does it still read back data from the modules every time you zoom in or zoom out or does it read the data only once when the acquisition is complete?

regards,
jgorsk.

Can't tell, as i've never seen a TLA721 in action ;). But the TLa7016 has a Gigabit Link, instead of 100MBit. I don't know if that makes a difference. It also fetches the data from the Instrument during zoom.

If you think your CPU is not speedypc enough and you want to have a better and faster computer, why don’t you try using a registry cleaner? Sometimes, a registry cleaner is all you need to obtain the results that you have always wanted. A lot of computers are slow because their registries are bad and faulty. So, if you want your computer to be at its optimum performance, clean your system registry. Moreover, you may want to free up some disk space by running a disk cleanup.
